Director of Individual Giving and Digital Fundraising

Kaila Canteñs is the director of individual giving and digital fundraising, where she strives to make the giving process accessible and easy for everyone living in the region and inspires wider audiences to invest in our programs through impactful storytelling.

Previously, Canteñs spent four years raising funds to protect and restore the Anacostia watershed as the development manager for Anacostia Watershed Society, where she grew individual giving revenue, including managing major donor and family foundation portfolios, managing workplace giving, monthly membership stewardship, digital campaigns and corporate relationships. Canteñs received a bachelor’s of arts in environmental studies and philosophy from Mount Holyoke College and her master’s of arts in environmental justice from the University of Pennsylvania.

As a Cuban-American Florida native and a Pennsylvania transplant, Canteñs passion for the environment and environmental justice is fueled by her experiences growing up both in the wetlands of the Everglades and the mountains of the Appalachian trails along the Delaware River.

Canteñs and her spouse live in Clinton, Maryland, with their small backyard hens and ducks, two dogs, River and Maple, two cats, Winter and Pepperoni, a tarantula named Skizzy and a bearded dragon named Darci. Canteñs loves to discover new vegan restaurants and is an avid hockey player, basketball player and running enthusiast.
