Monserrat Pizarro

Bilingual Interpretive Outreach Assistant

Monserrat is a Chilean transplant living in Central MD, where she would take trips to coastal areas of the Chesapeake Bay growing up. She recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science and technology and a minor in sustainability from the University of Maryland, College Park. Throughout her time at college, she volunteered at local elementary schools to share her Chilean culture with kids and parents alike and her experience as an ex-ESL student who went into STEM. She joins us after having completed a year-long fellowship with the National Park Service Chesapeake Bay where she assisted in the launch & facilitation of the Chesapeake Youth Initiative—a mentorship program geared towards high school students across Chesapeake Bay watershed communities—and other partnered projects with Chesapeake Conservancy. She believes that everyone should have access to our natural resources and have the opportunity to experience their beauty and learn from them in the way she has been privileged enough to do so. She is very excited to continue to share her love and knowledge of the bay with everyone she can and especially those from underserved communities. In her free time, Monserrat enjoys practicing yoga & meditation, kayaking, reading and painting.
